It’s been a busy week at work as many of our out-of-town colleagues have descended upon the Indianapolis office for business meetings. And along with the meetings generally come a few dinner invites since we don’t often have the chance to all be in the same location at the same time.
Woe is truly me this evening as I find myself sans Spider-Husband tonight while he’s out to dinner with his team. And, while having a Spider-Husband-free evening does have its perks, I am also wallowing in my 70’s era grief over missing the one concert that has piqued my interest this summer – Journey, Heart, and Cheap Trick.
For a brief moment, I actually considered driving over to my brother’s house to see if I could overhear the concert from his backyard, which is mere minutes from the Verizon Wireless Music Center, but then that just seemed sad.
So instead, I did what any mature, rational, 33-year-old woman would do…I turned up the stereo, draped my dogs in every scarf and headband I could find ala Ann and Nancy Wilson, forced them to dance with me, and then, to preserve the happy memories for years to come, took pictures.
Halas collects herself before taking the stage.
‘Cause if the real thing don’t do the trick, you better make up something quick…oh, Bardicuda.
Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird.

I can’t hear this song without being moved to jump around and dance.
And, now that it’s the latest addition to my iTunes collection, me and the Disaster Twins can totally rock out to Metro Station any time we want.
Spider-Husband will be ecstatic.

Something very scary happened to me on Wednesday night while I was half-watching, half-listening to Idol Gives Back on television. I heard a song that I liked, that I hadn’t heard before, and it was enough to make me turn away from the computer to see who might be singing.
Omigod.
It was Miley Cyrus or as my nieces and nephews twenty years younger than me like to call her Hannah Montana! Really? I couldn’t look away as Miley belted out the refrain to “See You Again”. I was mesmerized…and a little horrified, but I think that mostly was the not-so-Hannah Montana-like gyrating that was going on during the performance.
Now, I’ve never been sought out for my stellar taste in music, but this was something way bigger than having Ashlee Simpson’s “Boyfriend” and Britney Spear’s “Piece of Me” on my iPod playlist. This was a Disney Channel pop princess…a Disney Channel pop princess that just cost me a buck on iTunes.
Damn you, American Idol.
